National award-winning singer Sonu Nigam has raised concerns regarding the jury's decision to overlook several esteemed artists, including iconic singers such as Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sunidhi Chauhan.

On the occasion of Republic Day, the Padma Awards 2025, which represent the highest civilian honors in India, were presented to 139 individuals. This group includes seven recipients of the Padma Vibhushan, 19 of the Padma Bhushan, and 113 of the Padma Shri.

This year, Sharda Sinha, affectionately known as Swar Kokila from Bihar, will be honored posthumously with the Padma Vibhushan, while singer Arijit Singh is set to receive the Padma Shri.

In a video shared on his Instagram, Sonu Nigam expressed that many deserving artists, including Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Shreya, have not received the recognition they merit.

In the video, Sonu stated: "There are two legendary singers who have inspired artists worldwide. One has been honored with the Padma Shri, and that is Mohammad Rafi. The other, Kishore Kumar, has not even received a Padma Shri. Awards are being given posthumously, correct?"

Alka Yagnik has had an extensive and remarkable career, yet she has not received any accolades to date. Shreya Ghoshal has consistently showcased her talent over the years and deserves recognition as well. Sunidhi Chauhan has inspired a whole generation with her distinctive voice, but she too has not been acknowledged yet.

At the conclusion of the video, Sonu Nigam encouraged his fans and followers to identify individuals who have yet to receive Padma awards. In his caption, he stated: "India and its pending Padma Awardees." In response, Shraddha Pandit remarked, "Gospel truth spoken @sonunigamofficial."

He later mentioned that his response would be, "Don’t you think it is too late in the day to give me Padma Shri?"
