Lang is now reevaluating her position as a representative of the body positivity movement. The demands of her role have necessitated a shift towards a healthier diet.

Former Green Party leader Ricarda Lang has recently undergone a significant weight loss journey, primarily motivated by health considerations. In an interview with "Zeit Magazin," Lang expressed her desire to continue her demanding job for several more years, stating, "I should take a bit more care of myself."

For the first time, Lang elaborated on the reasons behind her weight loss, clarifying that it was not prompted by her announcement to resign as party leader in September 2024 or by negative online comments. "The weight loss was intentional and achieved through hard work since last spring."

She noted that the negative feedback she received often deterred her from addressing issues related to nutrition, exercise, and health, which she found anxiety-inducing. "Sometimes I felt defiant and thought, 'No, I'm not going to let you push me into this,'" Lang remarked, explaining that her weight loss was primarily the result of increased physical activity and a healthier diet.

Lang also reflected on her role as a figure in the body positivity movement, acknowledging the significance of her presence for many women. "Now I sometimes think: Oh God, am I betraying these women now? Am I now the person who makes people feel like they have only made it if they have lost weight?"

Ricarda Lang and co-leader Omid Nouripour, along with the entire federal executive board of the Greens, stepped down in September following a string of disappointing election outcomes. In November, Franziska Brantner and Felix Banaszak were chosen as the new leaders of the Greens.

Lang remains a Bundestag member representing the Backnang-Schwäbisch Gmünd constituency in Baden-Württemberg. For the upcoming election in February, she is positioned second on the state list, trailing behind Brantner.
