Eggs Recalled Across Several Provinces Due to Salmonella Contamination Concerns
The recall impacts British Columbia, Ontario, Manitoba, and potentially other provinces and territories.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has announced a recall concerning potential salmonella contamination in specific brands of eggs across several provinces.
This recall encompasses eggs sold under the brands Compliments, Foremost, Golden Valley Eggs, IGA, no name, and Western Family. The affected expiry dates for these eggs are February 16, February 22, and March 1.
The provinces impacted by this recall include British Columbia, Ontario, and Manitoba, with the possibility of additional provinces and territories being affected. Initially, Alberta and Saskatchewan were part of the recall notice, but they have since been excluded.
Consumers are advised against consuming, using, serving, or distributing the recalled products, and they should dispose of the eggs or reach out to the retailer from whom they were purchased.
The agency warns that food contaminated with salmonella may appear and smell normal, yet it can still pose a health risk.
In healthy individuals, short-term symptoms of salmonella infection may include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. However, the infection can be more severe or even fatal for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
